Introducing: Baby Kale!

Posted on Oct 3, 2014. Posted in Blog

Move over Hulk, Kale is all the green rage right now! This unassuming vegetable has been popularised by health-centred celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and is now becoming increasingly popular with salad lovers everywhere, making its way into mainstream markets.

Well, before you hail the kale, there’s something even better on the horizon – its baby brother. Just like a green Peter Pan, this leaf will never grow up, and it’s all the better for it! Baby kale is about to take the world by storm, and here’s why!

Not so little after all

Baby Kale is more versatile than its curly kale counterpart, with a more tender and delicate taste, making it suitable for eating raw – great for those in a hurry and on-the-go! It can also be added to a wider range of recipes, without being overpowering and is the perfect healthy stand-in for lettuce for when you fancy something different.

What’s in it for me?

There’s nothing baby about the nutritional benefits of this leaf, as it’s bursting with Vitamin C which is great for the immune system, and Vitamin A for good eyesight and skin. It’s perfect for Vegans and Veggies everywhere, as it’s a natural source of calcium and is high in Vitamin K, which contributes to the maintenance of strong bones. Last but certainly not least, Baby Kale packs a powerful antioxidant punch and is also loaded with iron, essential for the nutrition of hair.

Alright, give me some meal ideas!

With pleasure! There are so many different things you can do with this lovely leaf. For instance, why not whip up a super-healthy baby kale breakfast smoothie to start the day off right, or if you fancy something a bit meatier, have a go at putting together this delicious baby kale Caesar salad with grilled chicken?
For the more adventurous, try your hand at a delicious autumnal salad, complete with wild rice, hazelnuts and pomegranate, or a kale, red onion and butternut squash risotto.
