You feel that? The year is almost done, and don’t you just love that New Year smell? For many of us, a new year is a chance to start again, set new goals and find ways to make the next 12 months even better than the previous lot. Stuck for ideas? Not to worry, for we have some suggestions for you to try, so see if any of the following sounds like something you could do. Make sure you stick to them though, because we will check!
1. Get out of your comfort zone!
Us humans are creatures of habit, and sometimes the thought of throwing caution to the wind and trying new things is really daunting. We aren’t saying that you should immediately book a skydiving session after reading this (although that would be awesome), but you’ll be amazed at what you learn and experience by putting yourself out there. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Life is for living, so don’t hold yourself back through fear of the unknown.
2. Exercise more
This is probably on everyone’s list, and January gym attendance is always the highest it’ll ever be for the year. Whilst most people do start off with the best intentions, many will eventually slip back into their old ways and not work up a sweat as much as they envisioned. The key here is consistency – find a way to work exercise into your everyday schedule and stay disciplined! Of course, if gym isn’t your thing, there’s always more fun ways to get fit such as playing sports, joining a Zumba class or cycling around nearby green areas. You’ll feel all the better for it!
3. Eat more healthily
Yep, another obvious one but easier said than done. Cut down on the unhealthy snacks, the fried food and the refined carbs if you can (but treat yourself from time to time of course, we aren’t monsters). There are a lot of tasty things out there, but not all of them are good for us. Luckily for you, there are all kinds of foods that are super-healthy and still absolutely delicious. Obviously, we love greens here at Florette and definitely suggest you check out our healthy salad recipes for some great ideas to get you started.
4. Learn something new
Pick up a ukulele and have a strum, go to a cooking class or try your hand at photography. Learning new stuff is amazing, and with so much out there, there’s no excuse! Knowing how to do interesting things and discovering new passions is what makes us all individuals and also gives us something to focus on. We all have something we wish we could do, so get out there and make it happen!
5. Get in touch with old friends
Even though it’s easier than ever to stay in touch with people, we are all guilty of losing touch with friends. Think about some people you studied or worked with, friends you met at social events and consider when you last got in touch to see how things are going. Don’t wait for them to do it! There’s nothing better than catching up with old buddies and bringing back fond memories.
6. Read more books
Books are brilliant. Whether you like biographies and real life stories, or prefer to escape into a thriller or dystopian future there’s something for everyone. Even though nothing beats holding a book and turning the pages, you can also download audiobooks to listen to on your commute or get yourself one of those brilliant e-readers and carry a whole library in your pocket. Diving into a good story lets us temporarily escape reality and is a great way to learn new things.
7. Travel more
It’s a big world out there with so much to see and do? Sure, travelling to the Himalayas or downtown Tokyo is easier said than done, but even weekends away within the country or visiting friends in another city still counts! Travel grows a person, gives you a new perspective away from the things every day and is fantastic way to create new memories and stories to tell.
